Assistance Programs

If you are without pharmacy coverage, assistance programs are available through nonprofit organizations and pharmaceutical companies. If you qualify, the prescription drugs are free or at a reduced cost.

Michigan's Prescription Drug Discount Card (MiRx)

The MiRx (My Prescription) Card is a free drug discount program for Michigan residents who do not have any prescription drug coverage. There is no cost for the card. There is no cost to enroll. And, the MiRx card is easy to use. MiRx card holders can take their prescription and their MiRx card to their local participating pharmacy. The pharmacist fills the prescription and charges the MiRx discounted price. The discount is good on any medicine the pharmacist stocks and your doctor prescribes. Over-the-counter drugs are not covered even if they are prescribed by your doctor.

Michigan Medicare/Medicaid Assistance Program

Michigan Medicare/Medicaid Assistance Program (MMAP) is a free health-benefit counseling service that provides education and counseling assistance to Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries and their families or representatives. There are 46 MMAP sites housed in regional Area Agencies on Aging, County Departments on Aging, Senior Services Agencies, Commissions on Aging and other similar organizations throughout Michigan.

With over 500 highly trained and certified counselors, MMAP can answer your questions and guide you through the Medicare and Medicaid programs.

Needy Meds

NeedyMeds, a national nonprofit, has information on over 2,400 programs that help people who can't afford their medications and health care costs. All the information is free, easy to access, and updated regularly. Applications are available as well as detailed information on every pharmaceutical patient assistance program. There is also information on over 11,000 free/low-cost/sliding-scale clinics. NeedyMeds offers a free drug discount card that saves users an average of 50% off the cost of prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs and medical supplies if written as a prescription, and pet prescription medications purchased at a pharmacy.

Partnership for Prescription Assistance

The Partnership for Prescription Assistance brings together America's pharmaceutical companies, doctors, other health care providers, patient advocacy organizations and community groups to help qualifying patients who lack prescription coverage get the medicines they need through the public or private program that's right for them. Many will get them free or nearly free.

RxAssist Patient Assistance Program

RxAssist is a pharmaceutical access information center created by Volunteers in Health Care (VIH), a national resource center for safety net organizations. RxAssist.org streamlines the application process for the pharmaceutical industry's patient assistance programs. VIH and RxAssist are nationally recognized as expert resources for safety net organizations, policymakers, clinicians and the media.
